GRANDPA JOHN

VERSE ONE
His skin was like brown leather
From walking miles behind a plow
I followed Grandpa John
Whenever Mama would allow
My Grandpa was my hero
Wasn’t much he didn’t know
He knew when fish were biting
And where the rainbows go
Grandpa never had much
But he always paid he way
And every night by candlelight
He bowed his head to pray
Lord, we want to thank you
For giving us this day
Please just walk beside us
And guide us on our way
I looked up to Grandpa John
Even after I was grown
The lessons that he taught me
Helped me make it on my own
He taught me how to work
Saying son, you’ve got to learn
The best things in life are free
The rest you’ve got to earn
Grandpa never had much
But he always paid he way
And every night by candlelight
He bowed his head to pray
Lord, we want to thank you
For giving us this day
Please just walk beside us
And guide us on our way
Grandpa’s faith never wavered
In ninety years of life
Not even when he lost
A daughter and a wife
I still think about him
Thought the years have come and gone
It sometimes seems like yesterday
I followed Grandpa John
Yes, it sometimes seems like yesterday
I followed Grandpa John
