TEXAS NEEDS RAIN

© 2002 Patti & Beau Burt

VERSE

We were really dirt poor on the summer day when I saw that flyer bike
I was totally convinced my heart would break if I couldn’t ride it home that night
I rehearsed my case all the way to the house where my momma was makin bread
And with a tear in my eye I asked her to buy it and this is what she said

CHORUS

The baby needs a bottle
And sister needs shoes
Daddy needs some peace and a little less bad news
The dog needs a bone
And the cat needs a name
Momma needs some sugar
And TEXAS NEEDS RAIN

VERSE

When I grew up I had a whole lot of money, nearly nothing I couldn’t buy
I fell in love with a dream come true with another man on her mind
I felt just like a little kid again wantin’ somethin’ I coun’t have
And I couldn’t help thinkin’ how wise my momma was the day she said

CHORUS

The baby needs a bottle
And sister needs shoes
Daddy needs some peace and a little less bad news
The dog needs a bone
And the cat needs a name
Momma needs some sugar
And TEXAS NEEDS RAIN

LIFT

My little girl just came to me with her 10th request today
And I’d love to give the world to her – but sometimes you need to say

CHORUS

The baby needs a bottle
And sister needs shoes
Daddy needs some peace and a little less bad news
The dog needs a bone
And the cat needs a name
Momma needs some sugar
And TEXAS NEEDS RAIN
